About PrintReadyCover

PrintReadyCover is a free, independent tool that helps self-published authors get their KDP cover right before they upload it.

Why it exists

KDP publishes exact cover rules, but they're spread across several help pages, and the size changes with every book. This tool brings the arithmetic into one place and shows the rules laid over your own cover.

How the numbers are checked

Cover sizes come from Amazon's published formulas. We last compared them with Amazon's cover calculator on 2 November 2026, across six paperback and seven hardcover combinations of trim size, page count and paper. Every result matched to three decimal places. We also ran test covers through KDP's Print Previewer, and its paperback bleed, trim, safe area, spine and barcode positions lined up with ours. We haven't yet compared a hardcover in the previewer.

What it doesn't do

It covers paperbacks and standard printed hardcovers, but not dust jackets. It doesn't yet check colour, fonts or image resolution, and it can't promise that KDP will accept a file. Always review your file in KDP's print previewer.
